Multscher Museum in Vipiteno
The Multscher and City Museum in Vipiteno holds a fascinating collection that reflects the rich history of the city. The jewel within consists of the Vipiteno altarpiece, a work filled with meaning by Hans Multscher, dating to the 15th century. Originally created for the parish church, it was moved to the town hall and then transferred to the site of the commandery of the Teutonic Order (Deutschhaus), today the site of the museum. Through various paintings and illusionistic images, the commandery offers a panoramic look of Vipiteno and its surroundings. The items on display pertain not only to Multscher’s work, but also form part of a collection by Konrad Fischnaller, a local historian from the early 20th century. Artisan equipment, emblems of corporations, documents, and paintings constitute a rich heritage that testifies to the complex history of the city of Vipiteno.
